Norfolk 2024 Political Analysis

Norwich was the only authority in Norfolk to hold local council elections in 2024. Labour remain the largest party and will continue in minority administration, while the Greens made some small gains. Elsewhere, a by-election in South Norfolk saw the Council tip into No Overall Control as the Conservatives lost their slender majority.

South Norfolk

Despite there being no local elections scheduled in South Norfolk for 2024, there was a by-election in a previously Conservative held seat. The Greens took the seat by only 10 votes, to reduce tip the Council into No Overall Control with the Conservatives and combined opposition now holding 23 seats each.

Great Yarmouth

Norwich

Following the elections, Norwich remains in No Overall Control, after the Labour group lost its majority in the aftermath of several defections in Autumn 2023. Nevertheless, Labour remain the largest party and will continue in minority administration, while the Greens had a good night, picking up two seats.
